Gemma is a partner in the Employment team who advises employers on complex workforce issues, with particular expertise in the healthcare sector. She is known for her clear, pragmatic approach and for helping clients navigate sensitive and high-stakes employment matters with confidence.
With over 16 years of experience in employment law, Gemma advises on both contentious and non-contentious matters, including unfair dismissal, redundancy, discrimination and whistleblowing. She works closely with NHS clients, including Acute and Mental Health Trusts, Ambulance Trusts, ICBs and private health providers, delivering practical advice aligned with their legal, commercial and operational priorities.
Gemma has extensive experience advising healthcare organisations on workplace relationship challenges, conduct and capability issues, reorganisations and TUPE transfers, equal pay, and contractual matters including Agenda for Change
She has particular strength in Employment Tribunal litigation and has successfully defended many complex claims involving multifaceted whistleblowing and discrimination issues. Clients value her ability to support organisations and witnesses through sensitive disputes, including where matters attract media or regulatory attention.
More recently, Gemma has advised ICBs on collective consultation and redundancy obligations as they respond to the national mandate to reduce running and programme costs. She also has significant experience advising NHS organisations on the employment implications and challenges arising from group and collaborative operating models.
Gemma also advises private sector employers on a broad range of workforce matters, including negotiated exits, complex grievances, TUPE, restructures and redundancies.
