Matthew is an Associate in the Planning team.

Matthew specialises in all areas of contentious and non-contentious planning law. In particular he has gained considerable experience in drafting and negotiating S106 Agreements, Deeds of Variation and Unilateral Undertakings, alongside advising on permitted development, development management and planning enforcement matters.

Prior to joining Ward Hadaway, Matthew spent several years working in-house for a large Local Planning Authority. As such, he brings an insight into local authority decision-making and has experience of advising planning committees and decision-making officers with respect to not only legal duties and principles but also local and national planning policy together with relevant case law. He also has experience in dealing with planning appeals

Experience

Projects on which Matthew has advised include the following:

  • Expansion and alteration of a Northern international airport.
  • Reconfiguration of a large hub train station.
  • Enforcement against an unauthorised change of use of apartment block from residential to aparthotel.
  • Planning Inquiry relating to demolition and rebuilding of c.70 dwellings.
