Property team keeps building up

A RAFT of new instructions from clients has led to further expansion in the specialist property team at law firm Ward Hadaway.

The firm, which has offices in Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester, has seen demand for its expert services rise substantially in recent times as companies and organisations across a wide range of sectors within property ramp up their activities.

Experienced Associate Solicitor Stephen Carrick is the latest addition to the property team at Ward Hadaway, which now numbers more than 70 lawyers across the North.

Stephen Carrick is a very experienced lawyer who has a wide range of experience of property development, acting for housebuilders and other developers, landowners and public sector organisations.

He has provided advice to numerous developers and landowners on the sale, purchase and development of land and on related work such as development agreements.

Stephen has also acted for housebuilders on land purchases including complex site assembly; in the sale of commercial elements within mixed-use developments and the sale of land to registered providers.

In addition, he has advised commercial developers on agreements for lease, leases and sale of commercial developments to tenants and purchasers and has acted for landowners on the land sales via a variety of agreements.

Lesley Fairclough, Partner and Head of Development at Ward Hadaway, said: “We are delighted to welcome Stephen to the property team.

“His expertise and experience across all aspects of commercial property and development work, will add further strength in depth to our ever-growing team and I am sure he will be a real asset to Ward Hadaway and to our clients.

“We have seen demand for our services grow greatly in the past 12 months as clients look to ramp up their property acquisition and development activities so the recruitment of Stephen will enable us to help meet this growing call for the high quality legal advice which companies and organisations in the property sector value.”

The addition of Stephen Carrick continues what has been a very busy year for the Ward Hadaway property team both in growing the team and dealing with increased work levels.

Since the start of 2014, the team has recruited Associate Julia Kenny and Solicitor Tessa Petrides as well as welcoming into the team Hannah Taylor and Matthew Miller as newly qualified Solicitors when they completed their traineeships at Ward Hadaway in September.

Neil Robson, Partner and Head of Property at Ward Hadaway, said: “After being hit hard by the recession, the property industry is really bouncing back now with particularly rapid growth in the housebuilding and commercial property sectors.

“The fact that we can advise companies in relation to property development scenarios at every stage from planning and site acquisition through construction to completion means that we are ideally placed to provide focused legal advice throughout the development process.

“With the wider economy picking up, we are also seeing a rise in demand from businesses looking for legal advice in relation to relocating to larger premises or expanding their existing operations.

“Investors are also returning to the property sector and becoming much more active, so we have also seen an upturn in instructions from that side of the market.

“Expanding our specialist team means we are able to take on more work in more areas and we have further recruitments in the pipeline.”
