Launched in 1998, the Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 Awards celebrate outstanding business achievement in the North East, Yorkshire and North West.

Each year we objectively compile lists of the 50 privately-owned, profitable organisations that have seen the biggest average annual growth rate in their turnover in each of these three regions. We then crown the fastest growing small, medium, large and overall company at our Awards ceremonies.

The North East Fastest 50 2024 is taking place on 11 October at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Arts.

Growing businesses are the lifeblood of the economy and we want their efforts to be recognised and celebrated on a wider scale, which is exactly what the Fastest 50 does.

Inspiring Growth

We have commissioned a series of articles talking to some of those in our business communities about both their past growth and success, but also about how they have responded to the pandemic. We hope this proves to be both inspirational and valuable for those who are facing their own business challenges.

Our latest winners

  • We’re absolutely delighted to win this award. It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team and the entrepreneurial spirit of brothers Tom and Phil Beahon who started Castore from humble roots in 2015. To see our exponential growth and the support from our amazing partners is incredible. This recognition is not just for us, but for all the businesses in the region striving to succeed. It’s an exciting time to be at Castore as we embark on the next phase of our journey.

Stuart Puddy, Investment Partner at Castore
  • We’re over the moon to win overall fastest growing business and the medium sized business category too - awards like this make us realise how far we’ve come in such a short space of time. Diversification and expanding globally are the focus for our next phase of our growth - it’s a very exciting time.

    Jack Sutcliffe, Co-founder, Power Sheds
  • It’s amazing to win not just one award, but two. We’re hugely invested in the region, especially in supporting the local Gateshead community and attracting talent from across the North East. We’re very grounded, it’s a key component of our culture, and that quality has enabled us to continue to grow from a start up to a sizable business today. The awards are so important in shining a light on all the fantastic work businesses are doing the region - and it’s great to be a part of it.

Rich Snowdon, Head of Studio at Coatsink
