Ward Hadaway advises on international sale

The Corporate team at law firm Ward Hadaway has advised on the sale of a waste management company to a German-based group.

Martin Hulls, Head of Corporate at Ward Hadaway, led the firm’s team advising the shareholders of Newcastle-based JBT Waste Services on the sale of the business to Remondis – part of the Rethmann Group – for an undisclosed sum, with support from Corporate Solicitor Clare French, Property Partner Alex Wright and Banking Partner Imogen Holland.

JBT operates two sites – at Bedlington in Northumberland and Birtley, Gateshead – and provides a range of waste management services.

The company has enjoyed rapid growth over recent years and now processes more than 220,000 tonnes of waste a year, employing 150 staff.

The sale of JBT Waste Services is the latest transaction in the waste management sector which Ward Hadaway has advised on.

Last year, the Corporate team advised the Business Growth Fund on a £6.7m investment in Darlington-based Total Recycling Services.

Martin Hulls, current North East Insider Dealmakers Corporate Lawyer of the Year, said: “We are delighted to have assisted the shareholders at JBT Waste Services on its sale to Remondis.

“Our experience and expertise of helping to sell high quality, growing family businesses, coupled with our strong track record of advising on transactions in the waste sector and deals with an international element ensured a smooth and successful sale for the business.”

John Binks, chief executive and founding shareholder of JBT, said: “With such an important move, it is vital that you can trust your professional advisers to get the job done.

“Martin and his team did just that in a thoroughly professional way, helping to ensure a smooth transition to the company’s new owners.”
