Laura is a Partner in the Employment team at Ward Hadaway, based in Teesside, and specialises in both employment and business immigration law.

She predominantly advises companies and third sector organisations, offering pragmatic, commercial, and solution-focused advice. Laura works closely with clients across a range of sectors on day-to-day HR matters, including drafting employment contracts and directors’ service agreements, developing tailored workplace policies, and managing complex disciplinary, grievance, redundancy, and absence management procedures.

Laura also advises on strategic employment matters, including those arising from mergers and acquisitions, TUPE and restructuring exercises.

Experience

Laura has significant experience representing clients in Employment Tribunal litigation, including claims involving unfair and constructive dismissal, breach of contract, whistleblowing, and complex discrimination issues. Her approach is commercial and outcome-focused, with a deep understanding of her clients’ operational needs.

In addition to her employment law work, Laura has developed expertise in business immigration. She regularly supports employers in obtaining sponsor licences, advises on compliance with sponsorship obligations and right-to-work requirements, and assists with immigration matters arising during the course of employment.

Projects Laura has recently advised on include:

  • Supporting a national apprenticeship provider with the restructuring of its internal teams, alongside complex employee relations matters and policy reviews.
  • Advising a healthcare provider on sponsor licence compliance, Skilled Worker visa sponsorship, and ongoing immigration obligations.
  • Acting for a large national cleaning services company in a multi-claimant Employment Tribunal case involving allegations of automatic unfair dismissal and redundancy following a TUPE transfer.
  • Representing a third sector organisation in defending a multi-issue Employment Tribunal claim including unfair dismissal and discrimination.
