Ward Hadaway advises on funding for specialist recruitment agency Operam Education Group

The Manchester team of Ward Hadaway has advised on the equity and debt funding for Operam Education Group.

The firm was engaged to provide advice on the funding provided by the Business Growth Fund (BGF) and HSBC respectively.

Based in Barnsley, Yorkshire, Operam Education Group is a specialist recruitment agency which was founded in 2017 by resourcing specialists Eddie Austin and Andrew Frome. The Group specialises in recruiting for roles in education including schools, academies, colleges and nurseries.

Corporate Partner Sean FitzGerald and the team have been advising Eddie and Andrew on their buy and build strategy since the start and acted on the original acquisition of Provide Education which completed in October 2017.

Eddie Austin, CEO of Operam Education Group, said: “A thank you to the Ward Hadaway team for your guidance and support on the deal. As always you have ensured that the decisions we were looking to make were the right ones.”

The funding from HSBC and BGF has since helped Operam buy The Education Specialists in Manchester and Liverpool.

Sean FitzGerald, Corporate Partner at Ward Hadaway’s office in Manchester led the team advising on the legal aspects of the transaction, supported by Director Rachel Clarkson and Solicitor Hollie Walsh.

Sean said: “We are delighted to have advised Eddie and Andrew on this transaction. It’s great to have been involved in helping Operam since the beginning. We look forward to continuing our work with the team as it continues its journey.”

The transaction is just the latest in a series of deals in the recruitment sector that the Ward Hadaway Corporate team in Manchester has completed. The deal marks the 12th in the last year alone, reflecting the team’s position in the sector.
