Countdown is on to this year’s North East Fastest 50
6th September, 2018
Ward Hadaway has launched its annual Fastest 50 awards, backed by The Journal to recognise and reward the region's most successful businesses.
The Fastest 50 was established in 1998 to celebrate privately-owned businesses in the North East showing the strongest annualised average growth in turnover, with the aim of acknowledging the success of high achieving companies and inspiring others to follow.
Since then, many of the region’s most successful businesses have had their achievements recognised with an appearance in the annual list of the fastest growing 50 companies, with the top performers receiving awards for their efforts.
As in previous years, the 2018 Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 has been objectively compiled and verified using publicly available information from Companies House.
The search for winners will culminate at the prestigious Fastest 50 Awards ceremony in October which is a highlight of the regional business calendar.
Awards will be presented to the fastest growing small, medium-sized and large privately-owned businesses in the North East. One of these three winners will go on to be named the overall fastest growing company in the region.
Martin Hulls, managing partner at Ward Hadaway, said: “The Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 is a great way to celebrate the everyday achievements that create jobs and drive productivity in the North East.
“We know that the region has some fantastic, innovative businesses that not only contribute to the economy but make the area a more exciting place in which to live and work.
“The Fastest 50 gives us an excellent opportunity to recognize the best of the best and I look forward to welcoming all of the businesses.”
Winners over the years have included nursery providers, health and fitness clubs, specialist recruitment agencies, retailers, hotels, manufacturers and marine and offshore companies.
As well as charting the successes of the region’s fast-growing businesses, the Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 has seen some distinguished guest speakers, including the then Business Secretary Sir Vince Cable MP and BBC Breakfast business reporter Steph McGovern.
Damien Charlton, a Partner in the Company and Commercial team at Ward Hadaway, said: “For more than two decades The Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 has showcased the achievements of businesses large and small across the region.
“Being in the final 50 is an achievement in itself and has always depended on a company’s financial performance, which means that every business which makes it into the list in any given year gets there purely on merit.
“As we all prepare for life after Brexit, the qualities of determination, expertise and teamwork exemplified by the Fastest 50 companies this year will stand us in good stead.”
The 21st Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 awards ceremony will take place on October 12th at BALTIC, the Centre for Contemporary Art, in Gateshead.
Journal Business Editor Graeme Whitfield said: “The continuing success of the Fastest 50 awards is a tribute to the commitment of Ward Hadaway to the region as a whole, as well as a marker for the enduring qualities of North East companies.
“Over the years, the Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 has always been a source of positive news, even during difficult economic times for the North East, and it never fails to show the region’s business community in its best light.
“We look forward to celebrating a whole host of trailblazing companies.”
