New NHS blood test trial to help spot cancers earlier
A new trail is being launched across at least 200 GP practices in England aimed at providing earlier diagnosis for a range of the most common cancers.
More than 20,000 NHS patients will take part in the trial to assess whether simple blood tests can spot prostate, ovarian, bowel, pancreatic, stomach, liver and other abdominal cancers.
Participating patients aged 45 and over who visit their GP with abdominal symptoms, such as persistent bloating or discomfort, will be offered the chance to take part in the trial.
These new blood tests aim to detect early markers of cancer before more server symptoms develop, providing the potential to catch and treat major cancers before they can progress.

NHS England data published on 3 November 2026 shows that from March 2024 to March 2026, the number of CT and MRI scanners in the NHS has increased by 125, giving doctors greater capacity to diagnose cancer and other serious conditions earlier and get patients into treatment sooner.

New Ukrainian GCSE to help young people preserve their heritage
Young people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will have the opportunity to study for a new Ukrainian GCSE, helping Ukrainians to preserve a vital connection to their language, culture and identity while opening pathways to future education and employment for all pupils.
This new qualification is part of the UK’s enduring support for the Ukrainian community and continued commitment to Ukraine and its people.
While the qualification is open to all, it marks a significant milestone for Ukrainian children and young people living in the UK who will make the opportunity to maintain proficiency in their home language.
The new GCSE comes after the government announcement that the UK will give a further £10 billion of economic and military support in the largest ever package of financial backing for Ukraine.
