The Government has been broadly supportive of the use of AI in schools.

The DfE recently published a policy paper, Generative Artificial AI in education, looking at some of the benefits and risks and highlighting how to use AI safely.  Across the education sector, teaching staff, governors and students are all likely to already be using AI to some extent – whether in lesson planning or in preparing agendas for Board meetings. It is thought that only 50% of schools, however, currently have an AI policy in place.

Our education team is at the forefront of advice on AI and our team have spoken at regional and national events on the subject. We are well placed to support your school or college, either in drafting an AI policy or in providing a training session for school staff on the risks and implications for its use, including Equality Act, safeguarding, data protection and intellectual property considerations.

AI use in education is a key area for regulatory focus. Ofsted will consider in inspections how AI is safely used in meeting its framework criteria. The JCQ expects action to be taken to prevent the misuse of AI in exams.  The ICO requires consideration of DPIAs to be undertaken where new AI systems are being used.  Our specialist team can help you to get the foundations in place to get this right and embrace the use of AI in schools and colleges.
