Owen is a partner in our Insolvency and Corporate Recovery Team based in Leeds, having joined the firm in January 2024. He has over 15 years' experience in dealing with all aspects of non-contentious banking, restructuring and insolvency.

Owen specialises in the management, restructure, and enforcement of secured funding, particularly in the commercial real estate and development sectors. He regularly acts for institutional lenders, investment funds, fixed-charge receivers, insolvency practitioners, and other stakeholders.

Owen also acts for both lenders and commercial borrowers on the negotiation of bilateral facility agreements, intercreditor arrangements, and the re-organisation of existing financial and security packages.

Experience

Owen’s experience includes:

  • Advising one of the UK’s largest challenger banks on the workout and restructure of its defaulting loan accounts;
  • Advising administrators of a developer on the build-out of a student accommodation scheme, including the engagement of new building contractors, settling rights-to-lights claims, and onward sale of the finished site
  • Advising on the funding aspects upon takeover of a number of Premier League and Football League clubs, and the disposal of a Football League club by administrators;
  • Advising the mortgagee of prime office space in London on the fallout of the bankruptcy of WeWork
  • Acting for professional sports clubs in obtaining third-party finance, including public grants for stadium improvements and the assignment or factoring of receivables, such as player transfer payments and television revenue
  • Advising insolvency practitioners on an exit from administration of a golf club via a CVA
  • Advising administrators of a property investment company regarding a claim for collective enfranchisement, which established new law in the Court of Appeal
