Health appointment for Ward Hadaway

LAW firm Ward Hadaway has won a place on the panel providing legal advice to Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust.

The UK Top 100 firm, which has offices in Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester, was chosen following a competitive tender undertaken by the Trust, which employs more than 3,000 people and provides a range of healthcare services in Gateshead and surrounding areas.

Ward Hadaway has been providing legal advice to Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust since 2001 and this reappointment means the firm will be offering its services to the Trust for a further two years, with an option to extend for another year after that.

The appointment covers a wide range of areas, including legal advice on corporate governance, freedom of information, child protection and mental health issues, property acquisitions and disposals, contracts and joint ventures, procurement, IT and employment and pensions advice.

It also includes advice on matters such as planning, PFI and PPP contracts, clinical negligence, dispute resolution and environmental law.

Jeffrey Keeble, Partner and Head of Healthcare at Ward Hadaway, said: “We have been advising Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust for a number of years so we are naturally delighted that they have chosen to reappoint us to their legal services panel.

“In their tender for these services, the Trust said they were looking for ‘an innovative, efficient service from suitably qualified organizations with a demonstrable track record’ so the fact that they have chosen Ward Hadaway is a valuable endorsement of the quality of service which we provide to our NHS clients.

“We look forward to working with the fantastic team at Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust over the next two years and supporting them in their important work.”

Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust runs the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Dunston Hill Day Hospital, QE Metro Riverside and some services at Bensham Hospital, all within Gateshead.

In addition, the Trust operates services from Blaydon Primary Care Centre and Washington Primary Care Centre as well as a specialist 12 bedded unit in Houghton-le-Spring. It also provides breast screening services for Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland and parts of Durham and is the North Eastern hub for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.

The appointment is the latest in a series of significant wins for Ward Hadaway in the healthcare sector over the past 12 months.

In November 2013, Ward Hadaway won a place on the NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) legal services framework, meaning it can provide legal advice to NHS Trusts and other organisations that are NHS SBS clients across England.

As well as advising national organisations within the NHS, Ward Hadaway currently provides legal advice to more than 75 NHS Trusts across England, at locations from the Scottish Borders to Cornwall and Kent.

The firm was also named as PFI Law Firm of the Year 2014, after winning the same award in 2013.
