Video – Healthcare Employment Law Update 3 July 2025
10th July, 2025
Watch the recording of our July Healthcare Employment Law Update.
Hosted by James English, specialist in healthcare employment law. In this webinar, James covers some of the recent issues facing employers in the healthcare sector such as the progress of the government’s employment law reforms, other recent legislation, and key cases and decisions.
Key takeaways
- The Employment Rights Bill is making slow progress through Parliament and we are unlikely to see any significant reforms until April 2026 at the earliest, more likely October 2026. We are actually getting updates now and the road map has just been published.
- Research has shown that younger workers are far less likely than older workers to raise complaints about health and safety, and far more likely to raise concerns on social media or to the press.
- Whistleblowing protection does not extend to job applicants in general but note that the NHS has extended protection for people in certain posts or training positions, junior doctors and job applicants.
- Always beware headlines or case reports that emphasise the attention-grabbing angle on a case. There is almost certainly going to be an reasonable explanation for what might look like an odd result. No one got £30,000 compensation for being called ‘Darth Vader’.
- ACAS and the government have both published very useful guidance on dealing with neonatal care and leave, and plans for the review of parental leave have also been published.
