29th May, 2019
Paul Sculthorpe MBE led the way at the successful 2019 Rugby League Cares fundraising golf day hosted at Fixby Hall, Huddersfield, in association with Ward Hadaway.
The two-time winner of the prestigious Man of Steel award and former Great Britain international took the nearest the pin prize and finished second in the team competition alongside recently retired Sky Sports commentator, Eddie Hemmings.
Paul was one of a host of high profile ex-players who supported the annual golf day on a glorious afternoon in the Pennine hills to help raise more than £2,500 for the charity’s player welfare programme.
Other stars on the course were Malcolm Reilly OBE, Paul Dixon, Gary Stephens, Brian Lockwood, Robbie Hunter-Paul, Leon Pryce, Richard Mathers, Richard Whiting and Francis Stephenson.
The day was sponsored by RL Cares’ Business Club partners Ward Hadaway with the prizes kindly donated by Ping UK, Mattioli Woods and Fenton Simpson, with prize sponsorship by Ashleigh Signs.
In addition, drinks at the 10th hole were supplied by former Bradford, Wigan and Salford winger Nathan McAvoy and his Seven Brothers Brewery.
Chris Rostron, the Head of RL Cares, said: “We had a fantastic day and I would like to thank everyone who played and congratulate all the winners.
“We had a lot more teams this year than last and that’s testimony to the work of the charity and the readiness of people to support what we do.
The winning team were Bullen Construction (Kevin Seddon, Ian Rennie, Steve Rennie, and Stuart Pizzey) and the longest drive winner was Ward Hadaway partner Ian McCombie.
