As we all know, suspensions and exclusions have increased in recent years. Our team are well versed in supporting schools to manage behavioural incidents.

We appreciate the challenges that schools now face in terms of managing behaviour and exclusions. We are able to support your school both with drafting a suite of Behaviour Policies including policies on the unreasonable use of force; searching and confiscation; and exclusions.

We appreciate the complexities of managing an exclusion correctly and following procedure. We advise day to day on the process and can support you to ensure that all factors are correctly taken on board, including SEND. Our team can help you to conduct investigations and ensure that no unlawful exclusions take place. We can advise your school at the stage where the Head Teacher is making a decision to exclude and/or looking at other options such as a managed move. We can also advise  Governing Bodies on reviewing an exclusion and draft exclusion letters.

Furthermore, our team of education specialists can support your school with independent review panels. As you will be aware under the Guidance, an independent review panel may now refer matters back for reconsideration to the Governing Body. We can equally support your school at this stage. Behavioural sanctions frequently lead to complaints and/or involve more complex safeguarding issues. We can advise you strategically on managing these incidents, viewing the bigger picture, to achieve an effective resolution.
