Alison is an experienced private client solicitor with almost 30 years of experience and has a particular expertise in advising landowners and farmers in relation to their succession planning. She is the head of the private client team.

Alison advises clients in relation to their Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Inheritance Tax planning and succession planning. She also acts in the administration of estates and trusts. She acts for all types of clients from retired individuals to business owners and farmers/landowners. She works with a clients other advisers, for example, their accountant, land agent or investment adviser to formulate and then implement strategies on behalf of clients. She often works for multi generations of the same family becoming their trusted family adviser.

Alison has advised many clients over the years drafting Wills, Trusts, Farming Partnership Agreements, Powers of Attorney, Deeds of Gift and developing Inheritance Tax planning strategies.

She has dealt with the administration of estates involving complex assets: these could be foreign assets where Alison will work with lawyers in other jurisdictions, business assets (such as shareholdings in private limited companies, partnerships and LLPs), or royalties.

Alison is able to advise clients on their duties and roles as executor and trustee and often acts as an independent professional executor or trustee for clients.

She is also a professional attorney for some clients and a Court of Protection appointed deputy.

Alison has particular expertise in advising agricultural clients and maximising Agricultural and Business Property Relief and reviewing existing arrangements to determine what changes to the structure may be required as part of tax mitigation and protecting the business for the next generation. She works closely with the agricultural property team to implement any changes to ownership which may be required.

Alison is a Past President of the Newcastle upon Tyne Law Society.

She is a member of STEP (Society for Trust and Estate Practitioners).
