Anticipated increase to court fees

On 22 March 2021, the government launched a consultation upon proposed inflationary increases to court fees.

The consultation response has now been published and the government intends to proceed with the proposed increases.

There is no commencement date as of yet, although it is likely that a Statutory Instrument will be introduced with effect from 30 September 2021.

The changes are limited to inflation but affect a number of different areas of civil court fees – annex B of the consultation response here sets out the proposed increases.

This is a frustrating development for many Claimants who already face high level court fees when seeking to bring a claim.
