Tightening the knot(weed)

Owners of land affected by Japanese knotweed will already be well aware of the problems associated with its presence and the damage it can cause to property. However, a recent Court of Appeal decision in a claim brought by two homeowners against Network Rail is a stark warning to any land owner that they could face private nuisance claims if they do not take proper steps to prevent the encroachment of the knotweed on to adjoining or neighbouring land.

Government presses on with its Apprenticeship Levy plans

In line with its commitment to implement new apprenticeship arrangements from next May, a raft of documentation was published on 25 October 2016 on GOV.UK. Publications from the Department for Education (DfE) and the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) set out in considerable detail how levy and apprenticeship training will interact as the Government looks to drive up both quality and quantity in apprenticeships.
