Robert joined Ward Hadaway having spent 20 years working an in-house with a major national Housing Association.

Robert was responsible for heading up the Housing Management Legal Team.  As part a larger Legal Department dealing with all aspects of social housing Law, Robert has gained a breadth of experience in dealing with housing management issues through working at the “coal face” with an Executive Team

Experience

In particular, Robert’s experience includes :

  • Complex possession cases involving succession challenges, unlawful subletting and anti-social behaviour cases
  • Drafting standard tenancy agreements including bespoke agreements for particular services
  • Drafting of all types of housing management policies and procedures
  • Working closely with Development Teams to assist with the drafting of nomination agreements and associated housing management issues
  • Strategic and regulatory issues. Robert was involved in campaigning to Government for housing associations to be granted a right of access for gas servicing which resulted in a change to the Regulations to include the “MOT approach” in respect of statutory annual servicing.

My insights

  • Social Housing Speed Read: The Revised Consumer Standards

Section 193 of the Housing and Regeneration Act 2008 (the HRA), as amended by the Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023, affords the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) the power to set consumer standards that registered providers are required to meet.
