Dot UK domain names

Some may recall that a proposal by Nominet to introduce .uk domain names was withdrawn after concerns were raised that holders of existing domain names .co.uk etc were not being adequately safeguarded.

Since 10 June however, .uk domain names are now available for registration, but with current registered holders of .co.uk domain names being given an automatic right of priority to register .uk names for 5 years, until 10 June 2019.

In this way existing domain name holders should have more than sufficient time to protect their existing portfolio of domain names and avoid the problems of cyber squatting.
