Who are the North East’s fastest growing companies?

THE countdown has started to the definitive run-down of the fastest growing privately-owned companies in the North East as we launch the Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 for 2015.

The Ward Hadaway Fastest 50, devised by leading North law firm Ward Hadaway and backed by The Journal, identifies and champions companies across the region who have achieved the most impressive performances in growing their businesses.

The Fastest 50 was started by Ward Hadaway, in association with The Journal, in 1998 to recognise and celebrate privately-owned profit-making companies in the North East showing the strongest annualised growth in turnover, with the aim of acknowledging the success of our high achieving companies and providing inspiration for others to follow.

Since then, winners have included the likes of Bannatyne Fitness – now one of the largest leisure club chains in the UK – Wilton Engineering and Pacifica Group.

Following the publication of the definitive list of the region’s 50 fastest growing companies next month, awards will be presented at a ceremony in October to the fastest growing small, medium-sized and large privately-owned businesses in the North East with an overall winner’s prize being given to the fastest growing company in the region.

Jamie Martin, managing partner at Ward Hadaway, said: “The Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 has become a real institution in the region so we are delighted to be once more helping to highlight the considerable achievements of the North East’s pace-setting companies.

“The Fastest 50 celebrates all that is best about enterprise and business achievement in the North East and helps to demonstrate what a great place the region is in which to live, work and do business.

“Those in the list are the real Northern Powerhouses of our region – the companies who are blazing a trail for the North East in generating prosperity, creating jobs and attracting investment.

“As we look to harness and develop the immense potential of the North East and make the idea of a Northern Powerhouse into a reality, it is businesses like those in the Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 who are leading the way so this is a great way to shout about their efforts and achievements.”

The Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 is compiled by independent economic researchers from St Chad’s College/Durham Business School using publicly available data from Companies House.

Colin Hewitt, head of commercial law at Ward Hadaway, said: “Over the years, the Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 has charted the fortunes of the region’s businesses and helped to highlight the companies and the industries seeing the fastest growth.

“In many ways, it has become established as a valuable barometer for the overall health of the North East economy as well as outlining some inspiring individual success stories.

“It also underlines the continuing strength in depth of North East business and the diversity of the companies which the region is home to.

“I am sure the Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 for 2015 will prove equally interesting and we look forward to celebrating the achievements of the companies who have done the most to rise to the challenge and expand their businesses.”

The Fastest 50 awards ceremony will take place in October at BALTIC, the Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead.Fastest 50 North East logo

Journal business editor Graeme Whitfield said: “The Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 has become an important fixture on the region’s business calendar and it is a great way to measure the performance of North East companies and to put their achievements on the map.

“It also helps to uncover some real ‘hidden gems’ amongst the region’s businesses and put their achievements in the spotlight.

“We are grateful to Ward Hadaway for their continued support and enthusiasm in organising the event and we look forward to another exciting year’s awards.”
