One week to Fastest 50 2015 run-down

THERE is just one week to go until the fastest growing companies in the North East are revealed with the publication of the Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 for 2015.

An A-Z run-down of the fastest growing privately owned companies across the region will be published on September 23rd.

It is from this list of profit-making pace-setters that the winners of the fastest growing small business, fastest growing medium-sized business and fastest growing large business will emerge when the Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 Awards take place at BALTIC, the Centre for Contemporary Art, in Gateshead on Friday 9th October.

One of these individual category winners will then be named the overall fastest growing business in the North East for 2015.

The Fastest 50 has been charting the fortunes of the region’s companies every year since 1998 with law firm Ward Hadaway organising the event since its foundation.

Jamie Martin, managing partner at Ward Hadaway (pictured), said that fast-growing businesses such as those found in the Ward Hadaway Fastest 50, were in many ways the driving force of the North East economy.

Jamie explained: “Fast-growing companies are vital to the success and continuing progress of any regional economy and this is certainly the case in the North East.

“The businesses making the running in this year’s Fastest 50 are truly blazing a trail and making a major impact in terms of generating wealth, creating jobs and attracting investment.

“In many respects, they are the engines driving the Northern Powerhouse forward so if the Government is serious about harnessing and building on the potential of the economies across the North, it is to companies like those found in the Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 which they need to be listening.

“As a firm, we are fortunate to work on a daily basis with businesses across the North who are striving and succeeding to expand and we believe their voices need to be heard when it comes to major decisions on investment, transport and devolution of power.

“This is one of the reasons why earlier this year Ward Hadaway supported research into business attitudes to the Northern Powerhouse agenda; to give companies a voice in what is an important debate for the future of the region and the whole of the North.”

The research report was compiled by influential think tank IPPR North and made headlines across the country when it was published in June.

The Northern Powerhouse debate continues to drive the regional agenda with the North East submitting its devolution proposals for greater powers and spending decisions to the Chancellor earlier this month.

With this in mind, IPPR North Director Ed Cox will be the keynote speaker at the Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 Awards next month.

Ed said: “I am delighted to have been invited as guest speaker at the awards and I’m really looking forward to the event.

“Businesses in the North East have a lot to say and a lot to contribute to the debate on the Northern Powerhouse agenda so I am eager to meet many of the region’s pace-setting companies at the awards.

“The event is also a terrific occasion to celebrate the spirit of enterprise and endeavour which is one of the North’s greatest strengths.”

Jamie Martin said: “We are thrilled that Ed has accepted our invitation to be this year’s keynote speaker.

“He has already proved himself to be an influential voice in the Northern Powerhouse debate and the work of IPPR North has helped to highlight the contribution the North makes to the national economy and the potential for that to grow still further.

“I am sure the audience at the Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 Awards will be interested to hear Ed’s latest thoughts on the current situation and what may lie ahead for the region.”
