Multistar Container Transport clinches double at Greater Manchester Fastest 50 Awards

TANKER leasing specialist Multistar Container Transport Limited proved to be the prime mover at the 2015 Greater Manchester Fastest 50 Awards.

The company won the awards for Fastest Growing Medium-Sized Business and Overall Fastest Growing Business at the event at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester.

Based in Sandbach in Cheshire, Multistar Container Transport has grown substantially since its foundation in 1980 and is now one of the leading companies of its kind in the world.

It operates a fleet of around 6,000 tank containers which are leased to businesses including major chemical companies, liquid food producers, tank container operators, shipping lines and road hauliers.

In addition to its headquarters in the North West, Multistar has offices in the USA, Germany and South Africa as well as depots in 11 different countries across the world.

Mark Cooper, Finance Director of Multistar Container Transport, said: “It was a total surprise to win – we really didn’t expect it.

“I’m really pleased for the people who work at the company and who put it together.

“In terms of a secret to the success of the business, I think it is just a determination and a desire to see the business grow and it is certainly working.”

Multistar Container Transport fought off stiff competition from Salford-based lighting and light bulb seller LSE Retail Group Ltd and Manchester-based heavy engineering and machining specialist Eaves Machining Ltd, who were second and third respectively, to win the Fastest Growing Medium-Sized Business award.

Multistar were not the only winners at the awards, organised and sponsored by law firm Ward Hadaway in association with the Manchester Evening News/Greater Manchester Business Week.

Assist Facilities Management was named as the Fastest Growing Small Business. The Lancashire company specialises in asbestos management services, offering asbestos surveys, testing and removal services to clients across the UK.

Ian Guest, Managing Director at Assist Facilities Management, said: “We have got a great team at the company and it’s all the different components within the business coming together which has got us where we are.”

Assist Facilities Management won the title ahead of Oldham-based online pharmacy specialist Seemed Healthcare Ltd and Manchester-based Standwalk, which provides support for adults with learning disabilities. Seemed and Standwalk were second and third respectively in the small business category.

Massey Feeds walked off with the title of Fastest Growing Large Business for 2015.

The company has been working in the agricultural industry for over 125 years supplying feedstock and other products and services to the farming community.

As well as bulk delivery of feed, Cheshire-based Massey also operates cash and carry facilities direct from the mills which produce its feed.

Richard Massey, Chairman of Massey Feeds, said: “If you are enthusiastic about the business and you enjoy it, then that rubs off on to other staff.

“We have a very strong team and a very well balanced team and to take this award back to the staff will be tremendous because they are the ones who have helped us to achieve this award.”

Massey Feeds won the award ahead of second-placed Bolton-based specialist contractor Taziker Industrial Limited and third-placed pet food maker MPM Products.

The winning companies and the runners-up were revealed before an audience of 200 Fastest 50 company representatives and Greater Manchester business leaders at the Museum of Science and Industry on Friday 27 March.

BBC Breakfast business presenter Steph McGovern presented the awards and gave the keynote speech at the event, talking about her career in the BBC and the outlook for the region’s economy.

Manchester Evening News Head of Business Adam Jupp introduced the awards alongside Paul O’Halloran, Managing Director of MEN Media.

Ward Hadaway Managing Partner Jamie Martin and Corporate Partner Paul Johnson talked about the firm’s thinking behind starting the Fastest 50 and its activities in Manchester and across the North.

The Greater Manchester Fastest 50 rewards profit-making privately-owned companies and organisations in the region which have shown the strongest sales growth over recent years.

Researchers at Durham Business School compiled the Greater Manchester Fastest 50 list for 2015.
