Manchester professional advisers prove a national attraction

PROFESSIONAL services firms in Manchester have been praised for their work advising on a sale in the education and charities sector in the South of England.

Law firm Ward Hadaway and DTE Corporate Finance were chosen by Anglia Ruskin University to advise on the sale of its subsidiary Ixion Holdings (Contracts) Ltd to the Shaw Trust.

Ixion is a not-for-profit organisation working in the employment, justice, innovation, business start-ups and skills sectors.

Its parent, Anglia Ruskin University, which is based in Chelmsford, Essex, turned to Paul Johnson at Ward Hadaway’s Manchester office and to Andy Humphrey at DTE Corporate Finance in Manchester, to advise on the sale.

Shaw Trust, a Bristol-based national charity providing employment opportunities, skills development training and health and well-being services across the UK, used Andrew Millar at Brabners law firm, also in Manchester.

Paul Johnson, Corporate Solicitor at Ward Hadaway and Executive Partner for the firm’s Manchester office, said: “With offices in Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle, we pride ourselves on being ‘a Northern law firm for national business’, and this deal really demonstrates the point.

“Manchester is proving itself to be the strong quality alternative to the higher prices of London, and companies from all over the UK are choosing to use the skills of firms like Ward Hadaway, DTE and Brabners based in the city.

“We would like to wish Shaw Trust continued success delivering the important services to the communities it serves.”

Andy Humphrey from DTE Corporate Finance said: “The fact that two parties from two different parts of the country have both used advisers from Manchester demonstrates the attractiveness and competitiveness of our offering.”

Andrew Millar from Brabners said: “Manchester is a great place to do business, for those from the region, and from much further afield.”

Paul Bogle, Secretary and Clerk of Anglia Ruskin University, said: “Working with Paul and Andy has been a real pleasure.  They have helped us reach the deal we wanted with positivity, skill and quiet determination.”

Roy O’Shaughnessy, CEO of Shaw Trust, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ixion into the Shaw Trust group and look forward to combining our shared expertise to help more people transform their lives.

“We would like to thank Andrew, Andy and Paul for their excellent advice which helped make the transaction such a smooth and positive process.”
