Fastest 50 2015 award winners revealed today

TODAY is the day when the winners of the Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 for 2015 are revealed.
More than 250 guests, including representatives of this year’s Fastest 50 companies, key members of the region’s business community and keynote speaker Ed Cox, Director of think tank IPPR North, will gather at BALTIC, the Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, to find out the identities of the North-East’s fastest growing businesses.
Awards will be handed out this lunchtime to the fastest growing small, medium-sized and large privately-owned, profit-making companies in the region, according to the highest annualised increase in turnover. An overall award will also be handed to the North-East’s fastest growing business of the year.
The fastest growing small business award is for companies with annual turnover of between £1m and £5m, the award for fastest growing medium-sized business is for companies with annual turnover of between £5m and £15m and the fastest growing large business is for companies with annual turnover of more than £15m.
As well as the winners of each of the awards, the event will also announce the two runners-up in each of the three categories.
The Fastest 50 Awards are organised by leading North law firm Ward Hadaway and supported by The Journal.
Colin Hewitt, Partner and Head of Commercial at Ward Hadaway, said: “There is always a great sense of anticipation surrounding the Fastest 50 Awards and this year is certainly no exception.

Ed Cox, Director of influential think tank IPPR North, will be the special guest at the awards and will deliver the keynote speech at the event.
Colin Hewitt said: “With its strong track record of championing the North’s economy and its lobbying for greater powers to be devolved to the region, IPPR North has helped to set the agenda when it comes to the Northern Powerhouse.
“Ed is frequently sought out by regional and national media for IPPR North’s take on political and economic developments affecting the region and with a North East devolution deal believed to be close, I am sure everyone present will be interested to hear what he has to say about the situation and how it could affect business across the region.”
Graeme Whitfield, Business Editor of The Journal, will introduce proceedings at the Baltic today (Fri 9 Oct).
The Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 highlights and celebrates the privately-owned profit-making companies and organisations which have shown the strongest annualised sales growth over recent years.
The awards have been handed out every year since 1998 and have helped to act as a barometer for the strength and diversity of the North-East economy.
The Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 2014 has been compiled with the help of researchers from St Chad’s College/Durham Business School.
