The Top 100 law firm will now go forward to the final of the Legal Week Innovation Awards 2018 on May 25th where the winners will be announced at a prize-giving ceremony at The Brewery in London.

The awards, which are hosted by Legal Week, in association with sister titles The American Lawyer and Legaltech News, set out to celebrate the contribution made by lawyers and non-fee-earning staff to the success of their businesses.

Ward Hadaway’s Planning team has been shortlisted in the flagship Future of Legal Services Innovation Award category for its unique market-leading planning service for developers.

The visual Title Overlay Plan (TOP) service helps developers, particularly housebuilders, identify and understand problems and constraints with new sites they are looking to acquire and develop at an early stage.

Kamran Hyder, Planning Partner at Ward Hadaway, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted in this flagship category for our innovative use of technology at the firm.

“On many land transactions, it is not instantly apparent from a study of plans or documents where potential issues may arise. For example, there could be gaps in land ownership, routes of existing services or adopted highways to consider.

“The innovative TOP service uses an Ordnance Survey Plan as its base and overlays it with other information, including a Google Earth satellite image, adopted highways, red line site boundary, Land Registry title plans as well as routes of existing services and any other likely constraints. It means a TOP can be produced extremely quickly.”

Ward Hadaway’s Healthcare team has also been shortlisted in the Client Management Innovation category for Melanie Gavin’s work on Lancashire Care’s Knowledge and Legal Advice Centre.

The Knowledge and Legal Advice Centre was developed by expert commercial barrister, Melanie and the team at Ward Hadaway along with Julie Ann Bowden and her team at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, following an efficiency review.

The review, which included interviews with clinical and management staff across the Trust, led to the development of the KnowLA system which centralises legal advice and knowledge on subjects ranging from procurement and HR to mental health law.

The innovative system, which was launched in March 2017, now helps managers across the Trust access information they need at the touch of a button. It helps to reduce duplication and time taken to address issues and make decisions which means more time can be spent on patient care – enabling issues to be dealt with quicker.

She said: “We are extremely proud that Ward Hadaway has been recognised for its role in client management innovation and helping implement this online tool which will ultimately help our clients identify new ways of working and increase efficiency and effectiveness.”
