Richard acts on behalf of a number of NHS Trusts, NHS Resolution and the Medical Protection Society in the defence of all types of clinical negligence claims.
He focuses mainly on high value catastrophic injury claims including claims for brain and spinal injury and delay in diagnosis of meningitis in young children, often leading to profound disability.
Richard also provides advocacy on behalf of NHS Trusts in the Coroner’s Court at Inquest and provides ad hoc advice in relation to any medical law issue.
He has handled a number of mental health matters including those where psychiatric patients challenge the grounds of their section/detention.
Richard has both defendant and claimant experience which gives him a good perspective of the defensibility of any given case.
Over the years he has successfully defended many high value matters which proceeded in the High Court.
He formerly handled in excess of 40 cases in a medical product liability group action involving a defective hip joint prosthesis.
He has undertaken secondments at NHS Resolution in London and in the legal department of other client NHS Trusts.
