As an in-house lawyer, you are likely to be asked for input on all sorts of topics, whether or not they relate to your core area of expertise. This free seminar will comprise a series of short updates about recent developments on a range of legal topics, giving you the key information you need, as well as some food for thought.
The topics for this session have been confirmed as the following:
1. Brexit Update
A overview of the constitutional law changes proposed in the European Union (Withdrawal) Bill, and their practical implications for in-house lawyers.
2. Immigration Law
A summary of key HR considerations when employing EEA and non EEA citizens, and a review of the potential impact of Brexit on the UK labour market and recruiting from overseas post 2019.
3. Employment Law
Recent developments that highlight the need to think carefully before labelling someone as “self-employed” and a brief update on employment rights in the gig economy.
4. Competition Law Update
A general review of competition law enforcement in 2017 with a particular focus on online competition law issues.
5. IT Law
An overview of the Digital Charter recently published by the Government, and its likely implications.
6. Property Update
A summary of property issues and recent developments relevant to in-house counsel: Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards on properties to be let; SDLT on leasehold property; Minimising dilapidations; Brief reminder on break clauses in leases.
Each of these sessions will provide you with a great opportunity to pose your questions to the panel and share experiences, opinions and insights with your peers, as well as contributing towards your continuing competence and professional development.
