Mock bullying and harassment investigation
26th June 2014
At our Mock Bullying and Harassment Investigation you will witness an extract of an investigation meeting conducted by a line manager into allegations of bullying and harassment.
Investigating allegations of bullying and harassment made by one colleague against another can be intimidating and complex, especially where the accounts of the individuals concerned differ and there is little or no corroborating evidence. Common concerns include:
- How do I prepare for the investigation meeting?
- How do I decide what questions to ask?
- How do I structure the outcome letter?
- How do I as the line manager decide who is telling the truth?
The investigation involves listening to the account of the complainant and the accused. We will then ask you to split up into small groups and feedback your thoughts on how you would take the matter forwards. You as the audience will have the opportunity to ask the witnesses questions and decide the outcome.
The Mock Investigation will give you an understanding of your role as an investigator in promoting fairness, equality and dignity. It will also highlight key skills such as how to ask “open” questions, evidence gathering, listening under pressure, empathy and impartiality, so that you have the confidence and knowledge in handling such investigations.
