Liberty Protection Safeguards
17th December 2019
Join us for a morning of free training in Newcastle on Tuesday 17th December where we will focus on the new Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) regime.
The new scheme is due to come into force in October 2020 via the Mental Capacity (Amendment) Act 2019, replacing the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) as the system to authorise deprivations of liberty in care.
The new regime will impact on a wide range of organisations. Responsible bodies will in the future, in addition to local authorities, include NHS Trusts, Care Homes and CCGs.
What will be covered?
Join us on 17th December where Adam Fullwood, Counsel from 39 Essex Street Chambers, will provide an essential update on LPS for individuals in organisations who will now be exposed to direct involvement in authorising a Deprivation of Liberty under the new regime. As well as providing a detailed review of LPS and considering the differences between the new scheme and DoLS, we will look at what the new process will be and who will be affected by it.
The morning training session will also include timely updates on the ‘Court of Protection Pilot mediation scheme’ and ‘Advance Decisions to Refuse Treatment’ (ADRT) from Ward Hadaway’s healthcare experts.
Ward Hadaway has extensive experience of representing NHS bodies in the Court of Protection in relation to issues concerning deprivation of liberty, care packages and residence issues, in addition to having expertise in medical treatment cases.
