Ward Hadaway has an experienced energy team with a history of providing full services to clients in the renewables, utilities, biofuels, landfill and mining sectors with particular experience in working in the wind energy and waste markets.

Our experience includes:

  • Commercial advice on contracts, IP and procurement in the Energy sector, including contracts relating to the supply of solid recovered fuel, emissions trading agreements and contracts in the biofuel sector. Ward Hadaway has extensive experience of acting for companies in the Oil and Gas Supply chain. This includes companies that supply pipeline equipment, valves and specialist tooling on an international basis, and so our lawyers are highly experienced in the contractual issues that are specific to this sector.
  • Planning advice in relation to wind farm developments, renewable energy facilities, anaerobic digestion plant, biomass power stations, national grid, sewage treatment works, green composting, landfill sites, and mining and policy in relation to extraction of minerals.
  • Property advice, acting for land owners in respect of wind farm projects, the preparation of bespoke precedent documents for a wind farm operator, advising on electricity generation projects using biofuels and advising on solar power projects involving both commercial and residential properties.
  • Finance advice including investments into energy companies, venture capital fundraising, reorganisation and demerger for a solar energy company, AIM fundraising and acquisitions in the utilities, biofuels and waste markets, management buy-out advice and AIM advice in the mining market.
  • Construction  advice on contracts and disputes related to wind farm infrastructure, biofuel, biomass and anaerobic digestion plants, offshore oil and gas, power generators and mining projects.
  • Environment advice including supporting renewable energy projects through the Feed In Tariff and proposed Renewable Heat Incentive, carbon reduction projects, accreditation of carbon offsetting schemes, environmental permit issues (including applications, variations, transfers, exemptions and breaches), statutory nuisance and pollution investigations and prosecutions.
  • Health and Safety advice in relation to wind turbines projects, gas production and supply, accidents involving energy sector employees and waste chemicals release.
  • State Aid advice to RDAs on a variety of energy related projects including wind farm development, low carbon and electric vehicles and regeneration projects on former mining sites.
