A member of the Royal Town Planning Institute and a Chartered Town Planner since 1971. Ian commenced his career working for Central Government within the Washington Development Corporation in 1964 immediately after its designation.

He worked at Washington in formulating the Master Plan and thereafter carrying out its implementation within central government guidelines until 1980, with a brief spell at Gateshead MBC between 1974 and 1976.

In 1980 he was Head of Development Control Section with the City of Sunderland Council before moving to Ward Hadaway in 1988.

Experience

Ian is fully conversant with local authorities' procedures and practices with specific reference to town planning and related matters including the requirements of statutory bodies.

Since 1988, he has been involved in a substantial number of development proposals (e.g. Newcastle's Grainger Town) liaising closely with members of the Government Office for the North East and the Department of the Environment on a range of matters.

Whilst acting predominantly for commercial clients on a whole range of planning matters primarily in the Northern region, Ian has also received instructions from and acted for a number of local authorities since joining Ward Hadaway.

Ian is fully conversant with national, regional and local policies relevant to the Northern region and has successfully represented a whole range of clients in both the public and private sector through the Development Plan and Development Control System.
