Ian Collinson | Partner, Commercial Litigation
Ian leads the Commercial Litigation Team and has a wide experience of civil disputes including financial services disputes, insurance claims, complex trust claims, professional negligence and public sector disputes.
He is described by directories as "intelligent, understanding and responsive" with “a remarkable knack of getting to the heart of the matter quickly on complicated matters with commercially minded, practical advice”.
The 2007 edition of Legal 500 describes him as "simply excellent".
Experience
Ian has experience in a wide range of civil disputes including professional negligence, insurance, financial services and local authority law.
He successfully led Ward Hadaway’s team in the leading case of Credit Suisse v Allerdale which determined important aspects of local authority powers.
Ian subsequently successfully represented the authority in a related multi-million pound professional negligence claim against a national firm of financial advisors.
Ian represented Mannesman B.V. in its successful defence of a multi-million pound international arbitration relating to allegations of negligent oil jetty design.
He has handled several major claims arising out of fire losses involving complex insurance related issues and related professional negligence claims against insurance professionals and others.
Ian is currently advising pension fund trustees and many private investors who have suffered financial losses as a consequence of poor investment management, including complaints to the Ombudsman, arbitrations and High Court litigation, often with an international element.
