National accolade for firm’s information service | 29 July 08
LEADING North law firm Ward Hadaway has won a national award for its library and information service.
Award winners – the Ward Hadaway information services team (from left) Jennifer Riddle, Judith Lowe and Anne Thomas with their Halsbury’s Award for Best Legal Information Services in the Commercial Sector.
The firm, which has offices in Newcastle and Leeds, was named as having the Best Legal Information Services in the Commercial Sector in the Halsbury’s Awards 2008.
These awards, organised by the British and Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL), are recognised as the premier accolade for information and library services in the UK’s legal sector and Ward Hadaway fought off stiff competition from firms across the country to win its award.
Judges said the firm’s information services team had made “outstanding achievements” in the field, providing a range of services including work with new solicitors, induction sessions of staff and weekly newsletters containing legal updates.
One of the nominations which secured the title for the firm said: “Through their hard work and dedication Judith Lowe and her team have been able to position Information Services at the heart of Ward Hadaway.
“Thanks to their knowledge and contacts in other organisations they have not once let me down, no matter how obscure the question. Somehow they also always managed to answer requests in what seems like no time at all and with a smile.”
Judith Lowe, who runs the information service alongside colleagues Anne Thomas, Jennifer Riddle and Caroline Robinson, said: “It is a surprise and a real honour to win this award and fantastic to think we have been judged the best of our kind in the country.
“The information services team puts in a lot of hard work in helping to support staff and clients at Ward Hadaway and it is wonderful to receive this kind of recognition.”
Ward Hadaway managing partner, Jamie Martin, said: “The information services team plays a vital role in the smooth running of the firm and this accolade is thoroughly deserved by Judith and the team.”
