JAMIE Martin, managing partner at leading North law firm Ward Hadaway, has been awarded the OBE in the 2008 New Year’s Honours list.

Mr Martin, who has been managing partner at Newcastle-based Ward Hadaway since 1998, received the award for services to business in the North-East.
Since being appointed managing partner, turnover at Ward Hadaway has more than trebled to £25m with the firm growing at an average of 13% every year.
Staff numbers have also grown to more than 400, making the firm one of the North-East’s most significant professional services employers.
Speaking about his award, Mr Martin said: “It is a great honour and a big surprise and has been achieved with a lot of help and support along the way from clients, colleagues, family and friends.”
As well as heading up Ward Hadaway, Mr Martin is also a prominent figure in the North-East business community.
He is the Chairman of Newcastle College, one of the largest and most successful Colleges of Further Education in the Country which has just completed the merger with Skelmersdale and Ormskirk College in the North West.
Mr Martin chairs the Newcastle Gateshead Initiative, a very successful Public Private partnership charged with promoting Tyneside as a place to visit, live, work and study. He is also a past regional chairman of the CBI in the North-East.
Mr Martin is also a member of the regional committee of the Institute of Directors and a member of the Board of the Community Foundation serving Tyne & Wear and Northumberland and is involved with numerous other business and community organisations.
