Teresa (pictured above) joins Ward Hadaway as an associate after five years in the Family Law team at Dickinson Dees in Newcastle.

Teresa said: “I’m delighted to be joining Ward Hadaway. The firm already has an excellent Family Law team whose expertise is in demand from clients across the UK, not just in the North-East.

“It is also good to be joining a firm which offers a full range of legal services since Family Law covers an increasingly wide spectrum of issues and I will be able to call on the expertise of my new colleagues in different departments across the firm, as well as in the core Family Law team.

“Conversely, I hope that my experience and expertise will prove to be useful to lawyers in other parts of Ward Hadaway as they look to provide the very best service for clients.”

Teresa is a specialist in high value financial issues in family cases with particular experience of acting in cases involving business owners and professionals, particularly from the medical profession.

She also acts for parents in cases concerning children, including cases where parents wish to move within or outside of the jurisdiction.

Jonathan Flower, partner and head of Family Law at Ward Hadaway, said: “We’re really pleased to welcome Teresa to the team - it is fantastic to have someone with her experience, standing and knowledge on board.

“As a firm, we are committed to maintaining and investing in our Family Law practice as we feel that clients should expect their legal advisors to be able to deal with all aspects of their needs, rather than be referred to other firms for certain areas.

“Teresa’s recruitment is positive proof of our intentions and will help to further enhance the service we can offer to clients.

“With the legal landscape on family issues constantly changing, especially after the recent Supreme Court case on the value of pre-nuptial agreements, it is vital that we continue to recruit the best people to give our clients the most up to date and relevant service possible.”

In addition to her specialist experience in divorce and family issues, Teresa also has a particular interest in Civil Partnership cases and in disputes between unmarried partners, especially where there are disputes concerning property ownership.

Teresa has also spent time practising law overseas, having been called to the Bar in Bermuda where she worked after several years as a lawyer in Leeds.

Teresa is the third member of Ward Hadaway’s Family Law team to have Accredited Specialist status from specialist family lawyers’ organisation Resolution, having achieved the status in the areas of ancillary relief and private children law.

The Family Law Team at Ward Hadaway deals with a very wide range of issues for clients ranging from divorce, issues for unmarried couples, adoption, domestic violence as well as disputes concerning children, including the involvement of Local Authorities.

The team’s work was highly praised in the latest edition of independent legal guide Legal 500, which described Ward Hadaway as “a go-to firm for matrimonial work”, adding that “Ward Hadaway’s family law knowledge is exceptional, and is bolstered with excellent team work.”
