Getting creative – Carol Isherwood (right) joins the Creative Industries team at Ward Hadaway, which includes Laura Harper (left), partner in the team, and Alex Shiel (centre), partner and head of intellectual property at Ward Hadaway.

Carol is not only an experienced solicitor with specialist expertise in intellectual property and commercial law, she also has first-hand experience of working in the creative sector.

Carol was previously a singer-songwriter in a signed band and went on to work for a music management company before pursuing her legal career.

Unsurprisingly given her background, Carol has particular experience in music law, having advised musicians, producers, record labels and management companies on matters including publishing contracts, recording contracts and merchandising agreements.

In the wider intellectual property sphere, Carol’s experience includes advising on copyright, trade marks and misleading advertising and drafting and negotiating a wide range of agreements including trade mark licences and assignments of copyright.

Carol said: “I’m really pleased to be joining Ward Hadaway. The firm has an excellent reputation for the quality of its work in the creative industries field and it is exciting to become part of a team which is focused on getting the best for a wide range of creative businesses and individuals.

“The creative sector is becoming an increasingly important part of the UK economy and, having been involved in creative ventures in the past, I know the importance of getting the right professional advice from people who really understand the challenges and opportunities involved.

“I believe the creative industries team at Ward Hadaway does just that and I am looking forward to working with a diverse range of clients.”

Laura Harper, partner in the creative industries team at Ward Hadaway, said: “It is great to have Carol on board. It is rare to find someone with her combination of in-depth legal knowledge and genuine first-hand experience of working in the creative sector so we are delighted that she has joined us.

“I think she will be a real asset to the team and someone who clients will really value.”

Ward Hadaway’s creative industries team provides legal advice to a wide range of organisations and individuals in the creative and digital sectors.

Clients include international artists, games and technology companies, advertising and design agencies, film companies, musicians and producers.
