Former Comic Relief lawyer joins Ward Hadaway | 25 January 10
COMIC Relief’s first ever in-house lawyer has joined leading North law firm Ward Hadaway.
Fiona Wharton (pictured) worked at the well-known charity for four years from 2000 onwards, advising it on a wide range of issues and events.
She is now bringing her expertise to Ward Hadaway where she will work as an Associate in the firm’s growing Charities team.
Fiona, who joins Ward Hadaway after four years at the Charities team at Leeds-based law firm Wrigleys, said: “I am really pleased to be joining Ward Hadaway.
“The firm has an excellent reputation in the marketplace and has some exciting plans for its Charities practice.
“I am looking forward to working with the rest of the team and helping to deliver a high quality, comprehensive service to charity clients across the UK.”
Fiona initially joined Comic Relief on secondment from media and entertainment law firm specialists Harbottle & Lewis.
She was then recruited on a permanent basis for the charity, which raises millions of pounds for projects in developing countries and in the UK via campaigns such as Red Nose Day and Sport Relief.
Fiona also has experience of advising a wide range of other charities and social enterprises, theatres, museums, building preservation trusts and visitor attractions, schools and other academic institutions and grant-making organisations.
Colin Hewitt, partner and head of the Charities team at Ward Hadaway, said: “We are delighted that Fiona has joined the team. I am sure her extensive experience and expertise will prove invaluable to our clients.”
Ward Hadaway has carried out a range of work for clients in the charities sector, including helping to set up national creative and educational charity Creativity, Culture and Education last year.
