Law firm’s major health win | 20 April 09
LAW firm Ward Hadaway has scored a major success in the Yorkshire health sector.
The firm, which opened its Leeds office in July last year, has been appointed to the legal panel for the Yorkshire and the Humber NHS Commercial Procurement Collaborative (YHCPC).
The YHCPC works to help more than 30 health organisations across Yorkshire and Humberside to buy goods and services.
It has chosen Ward Hadaway as one of only six law firms to provide a full range of legal services to its members for the next two years.
Ward Hadaway was picked following a hotly contested competitive tender process involving law firms from across the country.
It has been chosen to provide advice on the full range of issues affecting NHS bodies, including primary care services, employment law, contract and commercial law, property issues and PFI and PPP projects.
The appointment is for an initial two years with the option of a further two year extension.
Jeffrey Keeble, partner and head of healthcare at Ward Hadaway, said: “This appointment to the YHCPC panel is a ringing endorsement of the quality of expertise which Ward Hadaway provides to the healthcare sector.
“It is also a reflection of a lot of hard work which our team has put in and continues to put in for our clients.
“We look forward to working with members of the panel in the years to come and play our part in improving healthcare service for the people of Yorkshire and Humberside still further.”
Senior Category Manager for Corporate Services at the NHS YHCPC, Stephen Sercombe, said: “We were delighted with the number of high calibre organisations who submitted tenders to supply legal services to NHS organisations in the Yorkshire and Humber region.
“The procurement process means that all the applicants get an equal chance to tender, which is good for them and for the NHS organisations.
“The CPC works hard to make sure not only that real value for money is achieved for the NHS but also that the organisations receiving the legal advice and work are getting the best possible service.”
This is the latest in a series of notable successes for Ward Hadaway in the health sector.
In February, the firm was reappointed to the NHS Litigation Authority’s panel for non-clinical legal services for a further three-year term following another successful competitive tender win.
Ward Hadaway is now one of only six firms in the UK to be on the new panel which has been reduced from nine firms.
In total, Ward Hadaway currently carries out work for more than 60 NHS clients from the Scottish Borders to the South-East.
The firm has advised on a number of ground-breaking projects in the healthcare sector, including the first pharmacy services outsourcing in the NHS and the North’s first transfer of services from two Primary Care Trusts to an NHS Foundation Trust.
