Ten new Associates at Ward Hadaway

LAW firm Ward Hadaway has announced a bumper crop of promotions with 10 lawyers promoted to the position of Associate.

Leanne Couzens, Louise Cannell-Mirza, Jake Edward, Katy Hindmarsh, Joe Kelley, Tessa Petrides, Claire Simmons, Harriet Sutherland, Simon Thirtle and Jenny Wade are now all Associate Solicitors at the firm, which operates from offices in Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester.

The ten lawyers operate in a wide range of different practice areas across the firm and are based in different offices, demonstrating the range of services which Ward Hadaway offers to clients from right across the North of England.

Seven of the new Associates are based in the firm’s Newcastle office.

Louise Cannell-Mirza is a member of the Family Team at Ward Hadaway where she deals with all aspects of family law including divorce, finance and children disputes. Louise also advises the health and education sectors on issues relating to safeguarding children.

Healthcare specialist Jake Edward carries out clinical negligence defence work on behalf of the NHS Litigation Authority and NHS Trusts. He has particular experience dealing with high value claims and claims involving multiple defendants.

Property lawyer Katy Hindmarsh is a member of Ward Hadaway’s specialist Public Sector Property team where she advises a wide variety of public sector clients, including NHS Foundation Trusts, Local Authorities and Academies on all aspects of property law. She also manages the day to day property requirements for a regional international airport.

Joe Kelley is a member of Ward Hadaway’s Commercial Litigation team, where he works on a broad spectrum of commercial and public sector disputes, including national and international litigation. He also has significant experience in private wealth disputes.

Property lawyer Tessa Petrides is part of the specialist Occupiers and Investors team within the property department. Tessa advises on property finance matters, landlord and tenant work and also advises on the property law aspects of corporate and insolvency deals.

Claire Simmons is an experienced residential property specialist, acting for private clients in property sales, purchases and re-mortgages as well as advising lenders on property finance issues. She also advises on the acquisition and sale of freehold property portfolios, lease extensions and estate set-ups and plot sales for small developers.

Commercial lawyer Jenny Wade is a member of Ward Hadaway’s specialist Public Sector team where she advises a wide variety of public sector clients, including NHS Foundation Trusts, Clinical Commissioning Groups and Local Authorities, on issues including commercial contracts, PFI and public procurement.

Two of the new Associates are based in Ward Hadaway’s Leeds office.

Healthcare lawyer Leanne Couzens specialises in defending clinical negligence claims brought against the NHS. She has experience of acting in a broad variety of cases including amputations, delay in diagnosis of cancer, surgical and obstetric injuries, many of which are multi defendant matters.

Simon Thirtle is a member of the Social Housing team at Ward Hadaway where he advises a wide range of social housing providers on issues including possession and injunction claims, eviction claims and general housing management matters. He also advises on commercial property litigation and is currently chair of the Yorkshire Housing Law Practitioners Association.

Corporate lawyer Harriet Sutherland is based in Ward Hadaway’s Manchester office. She advises on a wide variety of corporate transactional matters including acquisitions, disposals and investments and has assisted on a number of significant deals.

Ward Hadaway saw annual income rise by 7.2% to a record £35.8m in the year to the end of April 2016, outperforming the average growth achieved by the Top 100 UK Law Firms, according to a recent report by Deloitte’s Professional Practice Group.
